Insurance
Will my insurance cover weight loss (bariatric) surgery?
Some insurance plans cover bariatric surgery, while others don’t. It is important to contact your insurance plan and ask if bariatric surgery is a covered benefit as well as what criteria needs to be met before having bariatric surgery.
If your insurance plan does not cover surgery, Bryan Bariatrics can set you up with Bryan patient financial services to discuss financing for self-pay.
Our price estimator can provide information on the cost of surgery, or you can call our price line at 402-481-4900.

Time in Hospital
How long will I be in the hospital?
The average length of stay is 1-2 days.
Weight Loss
Will surgery alone cause me to lose weight?
Weight loss surgery is only a tool. You will need to follow a progressive diet, increase physical activity and commit to life-long changes.
Pregnancy
Can I still get pregnant after bariatric surgery?
Yes! Obesity can make it difficult to get pregnant. Bariatric surgery actually increases fertility and your chances of getting pregnant.
You should wait until your weight stabilizes and you are in a good routine with your diet before becoming pregnant. Rapid weight loss and nutritional deficiencies can be harmful to a developing fetus. We recommend about 12-18 months.
Vitamins
Will I have to take vitamins and minerals after surgery?
Yes, we recommend you take these supplements for the rest of your life. Our dietitian will provide you with information about vitamin needs after surgery. Normal supplements include a multivitamin, Calcium with Vitamin D and B12.
Medications
Are there medications I will need to avoid after surgery?
You should avoid any medications that cause stomach irritation. Most common are aspirin, ibuprofen and NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). In some cases, these can be reintroduced for short or longer periods of time. We will work with each patient to determine what is best for you.
