Aquatic Therapy
Water-based healing to ease pain, build strength and restore movement
What is Aquatic Therapy?
Aquatic therapy is a specialized type of rehabilitation that takes place in a warm-water pool with the guidance of a licensed physical therapist. It’s especially effective for individuals recovering from surgery, injury, or living with chronic pain or mobility limitations. The buoyancy of water supports your body and reduces joint pressure, allowing you to move more freely, comfortably and with less pain.
At Bryan LifePointe Campus, our warm therapy pool and expert therapists provide a supportive environment for recovery, helping you improve strength, flexibility, balance and function. Whether you’re managing arthritis, recovering from surgery, or looking for a gentler way to move, aquatic therapy can offer a safe and effective path forward.
Common Conditions We Treat
Aquatic therapy may be recommended for a variety of diagnoses, especially those where land-based exercise is difficult or painful. Conditions we commonly treat include:
- Chronic pain
- Arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis)
- Low back pain and spinal conditions
- Fibromyalgia
- Joint replacements
- Post-surgical recovery
- Sports injuries
- Balance and gait disorders
- Neurological conditions such as stroke, MS, or Parkinson’s disease
- Prenatal and postnatal conditions (as appropriate)

Our Pool & Facilities
Aquatic therapy at Bryan LifePointe Campus is delivered in a heated, therapeutic pool designed with patient comfort and safety in mind. The water is maintained at a soothing 92 degrees to support circulation and muscle relaxation.
Accessible entry is available via a ramp, making it easier for individuals with limited mobility to enter and exit the pool. One-on-one sessions are led by licensed therapists who guide you through customized exercises focused on strength, movement, posture and body mechanics — all in the comfort of warm water.
Benefits of Aquatic Therapy
Thanks to water’s natural properties, such as buoyancy, resistance, hydrostatic pressure and warmth, aquatic therapy offers unique therapeutic advantages:
- Reduced joint stress: Buoyancy decreases body weight, easing strain on joints and allowing for pain-free movement
- Improved flexibility and mobility: Warm water loosens muscles and soft tissues, allowing for greater range of motion
- Increased strength and endurance: Water resistance helps build muscle with less impact
- Enhanced balance and coordination: The water environment provides natural support to safely challenge your balance
- Pain relief and relaxation: The warm temperature (92° F) relaxes tight muscles and promotes blood flow
- Earlier rehab progress: Patients may begin gentle therapy in water before transitioning to land-based therapy
What to Expect
Your aquatic therapy experience begins with a land-based evaluation to determine whether water-based rehabilitation is right for you. From there, your physical therapist will create a personalized plan to meet your specific needs and goals.
Each session is focused on building confidence and physical function in a low-impact environment. Many patients use aquatic therapy as a transition toward more advanced land-based rehabilitation or as a long-term solution for managing chronic pain and mobility challenges.
