Brain Injury Rehabilitation
Supporting Recovery. Restoring Function. Rebuilding Confidence.
A brain injury can bring sudden, life-altering changes to how you think, move and interact with the world around you. At Bryan Inpatient Rehabilitation, our nationally accredited Brain Injury Program helps patients regain independence, rebuild function and rediscover their lives after traumatic or acquired brain injury.
Whether caused by a fall, accident, stroke or other medical condition, every brain injury is unique. That’s why our approach is personalized. You’ll work closely with a team of specialists — including physical, occupational and speech therapists, neuropsychologists, nurses and care coordinators — who will guide your recovery based on your goals, your strengths and your story. Our percentage of patients discharged directly home - 82 percent - is higher than both the regional and national averages. The regional average was 72% and the national average was 71%.

A Comprehensive Approach to Brain Injury Recovery
Inpatient brain injury rehabilitation at Bryan is centered on your specific challenges and goals. We provide intensive therapy, medical oversight and holistic support to help you make meaningful progress in key areas of life:
-
Cognitive Function & Thinking
Brain injuries can affect memory, focus, organization and decision-making. Speech-language pathologists use targeted strategies to improve attention & memory, support executive functioning & safety awareness, foster emotional regulation & coping and rebuild problem-solving skills.
-
Daily Activities & Independence
From brushing your teeth to preparing meals, daily tasks may feel overwhelming after a brain injury. Brain injury therapy will help you relearn or adapt essential skills such as dressing, bathing & grooming, household tasks & routines and using assistive equipment for daily life.
-
Swallowing Safety
Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) is common after brain injuries. A few of the specialized interventions offered to improve swalling include VitalStim® therapy, diet modifications and muscle re-education for safe, effective eating.
-
Communication
A brain injury may disrupt the ability to speak, understand, read or write. Through customized speech therapy plans, patients are able to regain confidence, improve social connection & interaction, understand conversations and express thoughts clearly.
-
Mobility & Motor Skills
Brain injuries can affect balance, coordination and motor planning. Physical therapists work with patients to improve strength & range of motion, safely transfer & navigate environments and relearn how to walk.
-
Vision & Visual Processing
Visual challenges such as blurred vision, double vision or difficulty tracking are addressed through assessment & therapy by on-staff neuro-optometrist, Dr. Katie Layton, adaptive strategies to support safety & independence and personalized visual exercises
Supporting Families Along the Journey
We know that brain injury recovery affects more than just the patient. At Bryan, we welcome and encourage family involvement every step of the way. This includes:
- Attending therapy sessions
- Participating in care conferences
- Learning strategies to assist at home
- Receiving emotional and educational support
