Cardiac CT: The Latest Scanning Technology Now Available at Bryan Heart and Bryan Medical Center
Written by Bryan Heart cardiologist John Steuter, MD
Cardiac computed tomography (CT) is an ever-evolving technology in the field of cardiology to take pictures of the heart to detect heart issues. In the last five to 10 years there have been significant advances in CT scanner technology. 64-slice scanners once were the pinnacle, and now 256 and 320-slice scanners are available and allowing cardiologists to catch heart issues we never could before. I often equate the image quality to the difference between standard TV and high definition TV.
Benefits of 256-Slice CT
- Captures a complete 3D scan of the heart in just one heartbeat
- Ability to see more defined images and limit the artifact often associated with 64 slice scanners
- More flexibility with heart rate and heart rate variability in the patient
- Decreased radiation exposure – the 256-slice CT radiation exposure is 1/10th of what patients receive from a 64-slice scan
- Takes 15 minutes or less
Advanced Technology and Patient Safety
We are pleased to be the only institution in Nebraska offering the 256-slice CT scan, which provides advanced scanning technology, significantly improved image resolution and enhanced safety for your patients.
At Bryan Heart and Bryan Medical Center, bringing these advances to you and your patients is part of our mission to continually move forward, together to benefit patient care.
