What to Expect at Your First Allergy Appointment

During your first visit, we will review your medical history, symptoms and possible allergy or asthma triggers. Your provider will perform an exam and may recommend testing to better identify the cause of your symptoms. After testing, results will be reviewed with you and a treatment plan will be developed based on your individual needs.

If allergy skin testing is recommended, your appointment may last about 90 minutes. The skin testing itself typically takes 15 to 20 minutes and involves gentle pricks on the skin. Areas that react will become red if an allergy is present.

Preparing for Allergy Skin Testing

To get the most accurate results, certain medications may need to be stopped before your appointment. Always talk with the provider who prescribed your medication before stopping it.
