My Approach to Care

I love that I am able to be a part of so many patients’ lives in my career. As a family physician, I have had the honor of caring for four generations in one family. I have been blessed to have delivered over 600 babies in my career and also find it humbling to provide comfort at the end of some patients’ lives. Each person is an individual and I know that healthcare is not “one size fits all”. I find it rewarding to listen to my patients, find what works for them and celebrate the victories with them on their path to better health.

I waited on hold for over 10 minutes prior to just walking into the office. When I scheduled the appointment I asked for my yearly physical followed by another appointment for skin tag removal. I understood they would need to be two separate appointments due to billing purposes. I explained this in detail to the receptionist. She did not schedule it this way and now I must return for the skin tag removal. My satisfaction with the front office staff is very low. Although they are very pleasant they do not seem to have a handle on things. If it were not for my long-standing good rapport with Dr. Vandenhul I would consider switching establishments. Unfortunately this is not the first time I have had scheduling and front office issues.

Dr Vandenhul was very attentive and very friendly. She carefully explained the details of my recent blood tests, and gave me important information so that I could receive follow on care. I was not rushed during the visit, and definitely felt that Dr Vandenhul had my best medical interest in mind. I am privileged to be in her care. Dr. Vandenhul and her staff were wonderful. This was my first visit to her and I was impressed with her. Wait time and paperwork have room for improvement. I was encouraged to sign up for MyChart so I could fill out questionnaires prior to my appointment, which I did. I also did the echeck-in which they said would save time when I arrived. I was told I still needed to arrive 30 minutes prior to my appointment to do paperwork even though I had already done it online. The paperwork only took 5 minutes, so then I was waiting nearly 45 minutes before being called back to an exam room. The people were very nice, but the waiting was very frustrating.

Provider was great. However, I did park and call the number before walking into the building as requested. I called two times and it endlessly rang without anyone answering until it eventually ended the call. The third time, I clicked the prompt to make an appointment and then they picked up. That wasn't a great experience. When I asked about it, they said they were just really busy. So odd. I told my mom about it who is also a patient there and she said she experienced the same thing. This seems like it could easily be resolvable with an additional individual answering phones even to just say "please hold" so you at least know you're getting through to someone.

My regular doctor was out for a week and Dr. Suzanne Vandenhul had to take my emergency visit. So, she didn't know my entire medical history, but was aware of all the critical information like allergies, medication, medical conditions. She had to handle a cat bite from an unvaccinated cat and was clear about what she knew and did not know and clearly directed me to both the Bryan Specialty Clinic and the Health Department. She was clear, competent, efficient and caring. You couldn't ask for more! I thank her and all professionals like her at this difficult time. Both the office staff and medical support staff were equally professional and competent.

My provider did a wonderful job of finding out from me what I needed help with and telling me what I should do and saying that she would contact whoever she thought could really help me do something special. I was very satisfied and I enjoyed talking with her.

When a person is to enter the facility, it takes them forever to answer the phone. Also, if you're disabled, it's hard to stand there that long, so I would suggest maybe some chairs 6 foot apart outside or benches, but it's difficult to get someone to answer to come into the building.

Well, I don't know what medicine I'm supposed to take. I tried to call. They didn't call me back. I had to call them back after 3 days and I still don't know what medicine I'm supposed to take, And the medicine that I did take made me extremely tired and I can't get no help from anyone there and I would like to switch doctors, but I don't know where to go from here, and I have to have it for my blood pressure ,which is still very high. And it took me from 10:30 to 12:00. When I went there for blood test, I took me 20 minutes to wait for them to come get me to go in to get the blood test. I'm really upset, and I don't know where to go. Thank you.

My infant daughter got 2 shots and they didnt have the small round bandaid so they used adult size bandaid to cover the injection sites. It would have been nice for them to find the smaller bandaids.

I have been with Dr. Vandenhul for over 5 years with satisfaction on my visits with her. The office staff and phone staff has changed. However, each time I call I seem to get misinformation on the phone. Several times, including this last visit, the personnel that completes blood work has been late for the 7:30 am appointment. I have waited in the waiting room for up to 15-20 minutes waiting for her to arrive in the building. After her arrival, I have waiting another 10-15 for her to call me back to get my blood work done. The 7:30 appointment is chosen for me because I intend to get to work quickly. This tardiness puts my work schedule behind.

Dr. Vandenhul did an excellent job. She was a wonderful provider. I am glad to go to her. I think she discusses very well the options let the patient know helps the patient stay a part of the care plan and works with the patient to follow what they desire as well as what seems to be the most medically necessary and I also want to state that by accident I hit a one on the early part of the survey and this was not correct. It was to be a 4 because I think she does an excellent job. And in fact, I told her she was my hero because she had made some changes in my health care and medications that I've been feeling much much better. So I really want to be very positive.

Completing the electronic precheckin on Mychart is a total waste of time. The check in person has to go over it anyway so what is the point. The medical section had my past surgeries listed without dates although I had provided a printed list when I did my first new patient visit. Since the dates were missing the system insisted I go enter missing data. I did not understand what was triggering this at first so I ended up going through this section six times. Very frustrating.

I have good experience with the doctor to an alert. They were very observant. They did what they could I just did a 100 percent. They're doing great. There's I was there today. I was talking with the nurse. I had a question to ask if she come out and talk to me and I think it's a good I think Dr. Sue at the nurse than fantastic 100% of give excellent superior is was great. I'll be I can't wait to go back and visit with him again, because I know they deeply care about me and I give 100% giving superior great. Thank you.

I was greeted with a warm welcome by RN Pat. She gathered the immediate information required and posted the same on the chart. When she left the room, she wished me a good day. The doctor entered the exam room promptly and listened to find out why I was there. She addressed any concern that I had and offered a strategy for me to see a ______ in a more timely way.

Dr. Vandenhul has a very good bedside manner. She takes a personal approach - asking about family and work, recognizing the importance of connecting with and reassuring patients. This also helps her see the big picture with regard to my health. Other providers seem rushed and she has always given me the time needed to understand my concerns and recommend a holistic approach rather than just treat superficial symptoms.
