My Approach to Care

I always wanted to be a nurse. While studying to become a nurse practitioner, I discovered that I really loved family medicine, caring for people of all ages and life stages. I really enjoy getting to know my patients and having a long-term relationship with them so that I can help them with health promotion, and preventive care. I think the patient-care provider relationship should be collaborative. I like to involve patients in their care plan and ask their opinions. It's good to make sure we're on the same page and in agreement about what will work for them. I also enjoy working with young adults for whom I can focus on proactive approaches to healthy lifestyles and disease prevention down the road. I can't imagine myself ever waking up with a desire to do anything else. I love what I do.

I had a sinus infection and yes I think she prescribed the right drug. She was right spot on and asked me about all my symptoms that my face hurt, my teeth hurt and it's that whatever it was that she suggested and tried, she said it was good for sinus infections and yes it did work, it was great.

This was my first visit with Kate since I had been a patient of Dr. VanWyk. Kate did a great job of listening to my questions and taking my concerns seriously. The staff at reception was efficient but not particularly personable.

This was my first time under the care of this provider. I was expecting an introduction but really didn't get that. All MY questions were answered well. What I missed was the provider asking me health questions in various categories. Sometimes, issues come up that I might not have thought to mention. Also, it is reassuring if we find all is well.

I have never had a bad experience with Holmes Lake Family Medicine. The staff, nurses and doctors have always been very efficient and helpful regarding my health issues. My whole family comes here because they are very knowledgeable and have great bedside manners! That's important too!

I thought the PA was fine. It was just the first time I had seen her and an assistant was sent in first, like someone who was shadowing I thought. But she was sent in by herself to do the interview, which sort of threw me off balance a little bit. But the PA, who was Katrina, was fine and friendly and helpful and she gave me a prescription that was accurate for the problem that I came in with. And the issue seems to be resolving. And I did not feel rushed. So actually she was very good. It was just it was unfamiliar and I was a little off by having the training student come in by herself

The medical part of my treatment was very good. Getting the phone answered in thirty minutes was excessive. At one point I held for ten minutes and that's not acceptable.

Nina is one of the most caring nurses. I spoke to her on the phone and she listened with empathy and went above and beyond to get me an appointment. She is incredible!!!

Kate Dannewitz is a wonderful provider. She listens, takes time to answer my questions, and is very thorough. I would, and have recommended her and will continue to do so. Kasey, her assistant is wonderful as well!

Hi. I guess when I called in I expected to see Dr. Van Wyk and that wasn't the case, since I didn't see her. I liked the PA, she was good. I did not like how when I called back afterwards trying to get answers about my broken finger that it took a couple of hours for a phone call back. And then they told me one thing and then I had to call back again to ask more and it took a couple more hours for them to get back to me. And I never have received an answer. But apparently your place doesn't have the answer. So I still don't know what kind of break it was or anything.

I was sent for a mammogram as an annual screening. Whomever sent the order over did not check off ultrasound and biopsy if needed on the order for the mammogram. Every year for the most part, I have needed to return to have an ultrasound. It was very frustrating that these were not automatically checked off and approved on the original order. Additionally while I was waiting in a gown at the mammographers office - I was sent to the triage "black hole" answering machine. It took three calls to actually get my procedure approved and faxed to the mammographer. I was nervous about the "abnormal" mammogram and had to sit and wait for about an hour till this situation was rectified. There needs to be someone ANSWERING the triage phone or checking it every 5 minutes to respond to situations like this. This has happened before. The process of speaking to a nurse must be looked at and improved. It is so frustrating. Otherwise, I am so happy with the care I receive at Holmes Lake Family Medicine.

Was told to come in for labs the day before (Nov 2nd), no appointment necessary. Had to wait in the waiting room for over an hour and a half for a less than two minute blood draw. VERY frustrating since my blood draw wasn’t until after 3PM and I had been fasting ALL day. The receptionist however, was very polite and did say sorry for the wait a few times; although it was not her fault at all. The gal that drew my blood didn’t apologize once and was pretty cold to me (made me feel like I was an inconvience to her).

I felt like overall the experience was not welcoming. The front desk staff was short, rude and not friendly to me or anyone else that came to the front desk. I felt like the NP I saw didn't really value or understand my concerns. I left almost in tears. Honestly the worst visit I've ever had.

Katrina is extremely sensitive with her clients and very knowledgeable. I've never had anything not explained to me. I really appreciate her care. The only problem I've ever run into is actually with the front office when I've done appointments for labs where the appointment was made and I got to the office and nobody knew the appointment was made or what it was for, so that doesn't have anything to do with her. So that's the only thing I have to say. Thank you.

Okay, so on the last question, it says from 0-10, rate your provider, would you recommend them for your family and friends. Sorry about that. There's no 10 on my number pad, so I had to put 9 because I don't have a 10 on my number pad. I have a 1 and a 0, but if I hit 1, then you'd think it was 1, and that's not what I wanted. I wanted to hit 10, but you didn't have a 10, so I hit 9. Thank you!

The receptionist, was very rude every encounter I have had. Doesn't seem to care or understand me or my family I've gone there for 20 yrs. Unprofessional.

Waiting time in exam room is too long. I get in the exam room quick but then wait 30 minutes to be seen with a gown on.

Katrina does not listen to my concerns. When I came in to see her, she misdiagnosed me. I got a 2nd opinion, & with them, they diagnosed me with exactly what I suspected was wrong.

I prefer to see Kate over my PCP - Erika Van Wyk. Kate takes the time to listen when Dr. Van Wyk doesn't even let you speak!
