Pharmacy Residency Program Preceptors

Scott Persson, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Persson is the clinical manager at Bryan Medical Center and adjunct faculty member at Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy.  He received a bachelor of science degree in pharmaceutical sciences and a doctor of pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University. Dr. Persson was a clinical pharmacist at Bryan Medical Center Neuro/Trauma ICU for several years, where he served as the critical care team lead before transitioning to the clinical manager. 

Amy Reiner, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP

Dr. Reiner graduated from UNMC College of Pharmacy in 2012. After graduation, she started out as a staff pharmacist at Columbus Community Hospital - a small, community hospital. During her time there, Dr. Reiner had the opportunity to work with patient safety, fall prevention, compounding, patient counseling and clinical review. She eventually found her way to infectious disease and antimicrobial stewardship where she implemented a stewardship program.

Dr. Reiner started working for Bryan Health in 2018. Her main focus was in critical care, but she also has interests in antimicrobial stewardship and hematology/oncology. She now works as a Clinical Pharmacy Manager overseeing critical care, cardiology, pediatrics, women's health, antimicrobial stewardship, Pyxis, and the emergency medicine pilot.

Allyson Cheloha, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Cheloha is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the internal medicine units. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2020 then completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in 2021. She serves as a preceptor for the internal medicine and staffing rotations, and facilitates post-call. Her areas of interest include internal medicine, process improvement and dabbling in critical care. Outside of work she enjoys reading, spoiling her dog, golfing and traveling with her husband, and spending time with family and friends.

Janelle Crabbe, PharmD, BCCP

Dr. Crabbe is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the cardiology units at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at the Omaha VA in 2015. Dr. Crabbe serves as a preceptor for the cardiology intensive care rotation and precepts pharmacy students from Creighton University and UNMC. Her primary areas of interest include cardiology, pulmonary hypertension and anticoagulation.

Karsen Duncan, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP

Dr. Duncan is a clinical pharmacist who practices in Ambulatory Care serving primary care clinics for the Bryan Physician Network. She received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2010. Dr. Duncan serves as the preceptor for the Ambulatory Longitudinal Experience and Ambulatory Elective. She has a diverse background with experience in retail, long term care, inpatient, and ambulatory pharmacy. Dr. Duncan has been with the Bryan organization for 8 years. Dr. Duncan has the opportunity to collaborate on a clinic team to help meet value based metrics and manage many different disease states including (but not limited to): diabetes, hypertension, anticoagulation management, osteoporosis, COPD/asthma, heart failure, and renal disease. In her free, time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Erica Erixon, PharmD

Dr. Erixon practices in the neonatal intensive care, pediatric, and women’s health units at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctor of pharmacy and bachelor of health sciences degrees from Creighton University and then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at UnityPoint – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA in 2015. Her areas of interest include pediatrics/NICU, women’s health, and parenteral nutrition management. Dr Erixon is the primary preceptor of both the neonatal intensive care and pediatrics/women’s health elective rotations. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, attending concerts, and chasing after her dogs.

Anne Furasek, PharmD

Dr. Furasek is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily on the internal medicine units, mostly at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed PGY-1 residency at Nebraska Medicine. Her areas of interest include internal medicine, nephrology and transition of care. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with his family, traveling is an avid self-proclaimed “foodie”.

Allyson Helms, PharmD BCPS, BCACP, MS HSPA

Dr. Helms is a clinical pharmacist who practices in Ambulatory Care serving primary care, psychiatry, and cardiology clinics at Bryan Physician Network and Bryan Heart. She received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from South Dakota State University in 2019. Following pharmacy school she completed her PGY1 in pharmacy practice at UW Medicine in Seattle, WA in 2020 and her PGY2 in ambulatory care at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH in 2021. While at OSU, she also completed the working professionals Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a Specialization in Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership (MS/HSPA-L). Dr. Helms serves as a preceptor for the Ambulatory Longitudinal Experience and Ambulatory Elective. Professionally, Dr. Helms is passionate about cardiometabolic care and advancing pharmacy practice. Outside of work, she enjoys international travel, ceramics, and spending time with family and friends.

Ashley Lantis, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Lantis is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the critical care and primarily in the neurotrauma ICU. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at University of Chicago Medicine in 2017. Dr. Lantis is interested in quality improvement, precepting, and trauma. Outside of work, Dr. Lantis enjoys attending concerts, being outside, and spending time with family and friends.

Josh Livers, PharmD

Dr. Livers is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily on the internal medicine units, mostly at Bryan East Campus. He received his doctorate of pharmacy from Creighton University. His areas of interest include internal medicine and transition of care. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and going to concerts.

Ben Modrell, PharmD, BCACP

Dr. Modrell is a clinical pharmacist who practices in ambulatory care serving the endocrinology clinic. He received his doctorate of pharmacy from Drake University in 2019. Dr. Modrell completed his PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee, WI and his PGY-2 in ambulatory care at CoxHealth in Springfield, MO. Dr. Modrell serves as the preceptor for the Ambulatory Longitudinal Experience and Ambulatory Elective. Dr. Modrell’s professional include diabetes, quality improvement, and professional development. Outside of work, he enjoys being active in intramurals, attended heavy metal concerts, and trying breweries in the area.

Hannah Niss, PharmD, BCCCP

Dr. Niss is a clinical pharmacist who practices on the critical care team, primarily in the medical intensive care at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2020. She completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY-2 Critical Care Residency at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to critical care, Dr. Niss is interested in precepting and quality improvement. Outside of work, Dr. Niss enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Katie Olsen, PharmD, BCCP

Dr. Olsen is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the cardiology and internal medicine acute care units at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree at the University of Iowa then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri in 2016. Dr. Olsen serves as a preceptor for APPE pharmacy students and is a preceptor for the PGY-1 internal medicine rotation. Her primary areas of interest include cardiology, internal medicine, and diabetes management.

Maggie Ramirez, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP

Dr. Ramirez is a psychiatric clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the inpatient mental health units at Bryan West Campus. She received her bachelor of science in pharmaceutical chemistry from Pittsburg State University and her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Kansas in 2018. She completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency training at Nebraska Medicine. Dr. Ramirez serves as the primary preceptor for the mental health elective rotation, leads the program’s longitudinal resident wellbeing series, assists with the professional service rotation, and also precepts pharmacy students and medical residents. She is an active member of AAPP and the ACCP Central Nervous System Practice and Research Network. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, spending time with her dogs, trying new restaurants, and traveling.

Ryan Rasmussen, PharmD

Dr. Rasmussen is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily on the internal medicine units, mostly at Bryan West Campus. He received his doctorate of pharmacy from South Dakota State University in 2014. Dr. Rasmussen completed his PGY-1 residency at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD in 2015. His areas of interest include internal medicine and nutrition. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his family, sports, and playing in pool tournaments.

Craig Ripski, PharmD, BCIDP

Dr. Ripski is a clinical pharmacist who practices on the critical care team, primarily in the medical intensive care at Bryan East Campus. He received his doctorate of pharmacy from Creighton University in 2021. He completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy in Omaha, NE, and a PGY-2 Infectious Diseases Residency at Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Chicago, IL. In addition to infectious diseases, Dr. Ripski is interested in critical care, emergency medicine, and precepting. Outside of work, Dr. Ripski enjoys playing board games, traveling, and reading.

Megan Robinson, PharmD, BCPS, BCCP

Dr. Robinson is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in cardiology units at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from Creighton University, then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 2018. Dr. Robinson serves as a preceptor for the professional service rotation, cardiology intensive care rotation and also precepts pharmacy students from Creighton University and UNMC. Her primary areas of interest include cardiology, medication reconciliation and anticoagulation.

Jessica Rounds, PharmD

Dr. Rounds is a clinical pharmacy specialist who practices primarily in ambulatory care at Bryan Physician Network clinics. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from University of Wyoming in 2016, then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Monument Health (formerly known as Rapid City Regional Hospital), in Rapid City, South Dakota in 2017. Dr. Rounds serves as a preceptor for the ambulatory care longitudinal and elective rotations. Her primary areas of interest include chronic disease state management, patient care with insurance trouble shooting (prior authorizations, appeals and patient assistance paperwork) and diabetes. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Kersten Schmitt, PharmD

Dr. Schmitt is a clinical pharmacist who practices on the internal medicine team, primarily on the inpatient oncology unit at Bryan East Campus. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from Creighton Medical Center in 2021 and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Bryan Medical Center. Dr. Schmitt is interested in oncology/hematology, precepting, and formulary management. Outside of work, Dr. Schmitt enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and watching hockey.

Taylor Skallberg, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Skallberg is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily at West campus on the orthopedic and surgery floors. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University in 2020 and then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, SD in 2021. Her primary areas of interest include internal medicine, orthopedic/trauma, and anticoagulation.

Kevin Sponsel, PharmD, BCPS, AAHIVP

Dr. Sponsel is the infectious disease clinical pharmacy specialist at Bryan Health, where also serves as co-director of the Bryan Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. Originally from Plato, Missouri, Dr. Sponsel earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Missouri and a doctor of pharmacy degree from Mercer College of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and his PGY-2 Infectious Disease Residency at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Logan Sudbeck, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Sudbeck is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the cardiology units at Bryan East Campus. He received his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2018 and then completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dr. Sudbeck serves as a preceptor for the general cardiology and cardiac intensive care rotations. His primary areas of interest are cardiology and anticoagulation.

Amy Severin, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP

Dr. Severin is a clinical pharmacist who practices primarily in the critical care and acute care units at both Bryan East Campus and Bryan West Campus. She received her doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Nebraska Medical center in 2019 and completed a PGY-1 pharmacy residency at Bryan Medical Center in 2020. Dr. Venteicher has a special interest in acute care and process improvement as well as precepting pharmacy students and residents. Outside of work, Dr. Severin enjoys reading, being outside, and spending time with family and friends.
