Given the recent changes to the Bryan Medical Center visitation policy as a direct response to COVID-19, Bryan administration has made the decision to suspend all shadowing until further notice. At Bryan, the health of our visitors, patients, staff and communities is our top priority—thus we are doing all we can to decrease exposure and limit the spread of COVID-19.

You’ll learn more about your area of interest from our experienced, expert staff.
We provide two different job shadowing options:
Department (Non-Doctor) Shadowing
See first-hand what it’s like to work in the many different areas of health care. Choose the professional or clinical area of interest to you and job shadow one of our experienced, expert staff members. You’ll learn about your career interest and also develop professional connections with those you shadow.

All shadowing requests are approved by department manager and will be granted based on available staff and individual department workload.
Requirements for Department (Non-Doctor) Shadowing
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a high school graduate or have your GED
- Must be an undergraduate college student or above or enrolled in a health care program

Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant and Other Provider Shadowing
An advanced career in the medical field is very rewarding. You can learn all about your area of interest and see first-hand what it’s like to work as a care provider.
Provider shadowing opportunities include:
- Doctor
- Dentist
- Podiatrist
- Nurse Practitioner
- Physician Assistant
- Certified Nurse Midwife
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
Provider Shadowing Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age for provider shadowing
- Must be at least 18 years of age to shadow in the operating room, emergency department and trauma services

High School Students
We highly encourage high school students to research the following community programs prior to considering shadowing:
Required Immunizations
Anyone who has the potential to come into contact with patients are at risk for exposure and transmitting of infectious diseases. Working in a hospital requires you to be current on many vaccinations. As you pursue a career in health care, it's important to keep a file of your immunization records. Schools and health care organizations require this information.
To shadow at Bryan Medical Center, history of immunity/immunizations for the following diseases is required:
- Mumps, Rubella, Rubeola (MMR)
- Varicella or past history of chickenpox
- Hepatitis B
- Flu shot (required September 1-April 30); must be received at least two weeks in advance of shadowing within the required period. If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination, you will be required to wear a face mask
- Negative tuberculin (TB) skin test or follow-up care for previously positive TB skin test (required to be be completed within the last two years)
- DPT/TDAP (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus)
If you are job shadowing, you will be required to complete paperwork to tell the current status of these immunizations.
