How often will I staff as a resident?

  • Every third weekend rotating between central and clinical decentralized staffing
  • One week during the December holiday season and spring break in March

How many holidays will I work as a resident?

One minor (Memorial Day, 4th of July or Labor Day) and one major (Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day or New Year's Eve/Day) holiday.

What is the post-call program?

The purpose of the required staffing is to develop each resident’s knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking skills in patient care. Every Monday after a staffing weekend, the resident who staffed will create a report of any kinetics or clinical scenarios of interest to discuss with co-residents and assigned preceptors.

What teaching and precepting opportunities does the program offer?

  • Building preceptor and teaching skills in the Teaching Certificate program offered through Creighton University, which also promotes networking with other area residents
  • Ongoing professional growth opportunities through education and lecture programs at Bryan Medical Center
  • Serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students as part of monthly rotations
