Help Nebraska Families
To meet increased needs, we plan to expand the Women's and Children's Tower at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, starting with the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The number of NICU patients often exceeds the number of available beds, so extra space is set up on another floor to provide critical care for our
youngest patients. Some babies stay in the hospital four to six months, so having more rooms is important for long-term care and increasing volumes.
The NICU expansion will increase capacity with:
- More rooms – Greater capacity to serve more infants needing critical care
- Space for growth – Partially finished areas that can be adapted for future needs, like pregnant patients who need extra monitoring before delivery
- Improvements – Updates to the Rooftop Healing Garden, family lounges and new educational spaces
Why Now?
Out of 3,400 babies delivered at Bryan Medical Center each year, nearly 20% are admitted to the NICU.
