Platte Valley Medical Clinic Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program: A Lifeline for Aspiring Nurses

In an effort to support the next generation of healthcare professionals, Platte Valley Medical Clinic has launched a Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden for students enrolled in Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Associate Degree Nurse (ADN) at state-accredited programs in Nebraska

Overview of the Program
The Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program offers $12,000 in loan forgiveness to ten students each year. These funds are provided at the beginning of the students' nursing programs and are intended to cover educational expenses. The program will continue until the allocated funds are exhausted, with a maximum of $120,000 available annually.

Doug Koch, CEO of Kearney Regional Medical Center (KRMC), expressed his enthusiasm for the program: "We are committed to investing in the future of healthcare by supporting aspiring nurses. This program is a testament to our dedication to the community and our belief in the importance of accessible education."

Eligibility and Selection Process
To be eligible for the program, students must be accepted and enrolled in a state-accredited LPN or ADN program. The selection process involves a thorough review of applications by a KRMC committee, which includes the Director of Clinic Nursing and Clinic Supervisors.

Dr. Scott Smith, Chief Medical Officer at KRMC, highlighted the importance of this initiative: "Our goal is to ensure that talented and dedicated individuals have the opportunity to pursue their nursing careers without the added stress of financial constraints. This program is designed to support those who are committed to making a difference in outpatient healthcare."

Commitment to Bryan Health
Recipients of the loan forgiveness must commit to working full-time for Bryan Health for two years after graduation. They are required to start their employment within 45 days of graduating and must complete their first year at one of the Platte Valley Medical Clinic (PVMC) locations in Kearney. After the first year, they have the option to transfer to other locations within KRMC.

The program includes specific terms for loan repayment if the two-year commitment is not fulfilled.

The Platte Valley Medical Clinic Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program is a significant step towards supporting the education and career development of future nurses. By providing financial assistance and ensuring employment opportunities, KRMC is fostering a strong and dedicated healthcare workforce for the community.
