GIRMC Emergency Patient Keenan Anderson

Patient receives life-saving care at Grand Island Regional Medical Center

After a surgical procedure in Omaha, Keenan Anderson experienced a dire situation on his drive home to Grand Island. When a lump formed on his neck, breathing became increasingly difficult. His wife Heather drove to the emergency department at Grand Island Regional Medical Center. Upon arrival, Keenan recalls knocking on the entrance door to the Emergency Department, begging for help. He was immediately recognized to be an emergent situation, and the emergency team sprung into action.

These folks saved my life, pure and simple. I had minutes to spare. They told me that I was without oxygen for three minutes, and brain damage starts at four. I came within an inch of my life but they managed to save my life.
— Keenan Anderson, GIRMC patient

Keenan sat down with us and poignantly shared his entire experience of arriving at Grand Island Regional Medical Center in respiratory distress, and the heroic measures taken to save his life. His care at GIRMC extended beyond our Emergency Department into surgery and our Intensive Care Unit. Watch this video to hear all of the details and words of gratitude.
