Merrick Medical Center Successfully Meets Fundraising Challenge

Merrick Medical Center achieved another milestone in its efforts to build a brand new medical center in Central City.

On August 26, an anonymous donor gave Merrick Medical Center a challenge – raise $450,000 by September 30 and the donor would match it.

“That challenge really sparked our community into action,” said Sam Krug, chair of the Merrick Medical Center Foundation Board. “It gave us incredible momentum almost instantly. We’re really grateful for that anonymous donor.”

As of the September 30 deadline, the challenge wasn’t just met, it was exceeded. The medical center received a little more than $543,000 in gifts and pledges by the deadline, surpassing the challenge by more than $93,000. Adding in the matching funds, the medical center has raised $993,000 as a result of the challenge.

Communitywide Effort

“This was truly a communitywide effort,” said Paul Clark, CEO of Merrick Medical Center. “City leaders, business owners, charitable foundations and our community have all shown tremendous faith in our vision of a new medical center over the last five weeks. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Kendra Jefferson, director of the Merrick Medical Center Foundation, agreed.

“We’re waiting for the official total from our accounting staff once they verify all the pledges,” she said. “But even when we reach our $5 million goal, we’ll still need the support of our community because we want our new facility to have the very best of everything so that we can give the very best care to our patients.”
