Bryan Health has received distinguished international recognition as a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA.
“The birth of a baby is one of the most precious moments in a person’s life,” said Lisa Vail, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Bryan Health. “We’re honored to receive this special recognition. Our doctors, nurses and staff at Bryan Family Birthplace take great pride in being part of such an exciting experience in a family’s life.”
Baby-Friendly USA is the nation’s authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
Currently, there are only 537 Baby-Friendly facilities in the United States. The prestigious distinction is earned after a hospital implements Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. This is a quality process that provides families with information to build the confidence and skills needed to successfully begin and continue breastfeeding for their baby. A rigorous on-site survey is the final step. Certification is valid for five years.
Established in 2008, the Bryan Family Birthplace is a state-of-the-art environment where parents can experience the true joys of having a baby.
