Bryan Health Answers Need for Specialized Pregnancy Care

Finding out that you are having a baby can be the most joyous occasion in a woman’s life. However, it also may be a time of great concern if you are diagnosed with a high-risk pregnancy. High-risk pregnancies are on the rise in the United States. Women having babies later in life, multiple births and health conditions like diabetes and obesity are contributing factors.

Sean Kenney, MD, FACOG, Maternal-Fetal specialist, has joined the Bryan Physician Network. His practice, the Center for Maternal and Fetal Care, provides care for women with high-risk pregnancies. He and his team monitor the health of mother and baby throughout the pregnancy.

“There are several contributing factors to the increase in high-risk pregnancies,” says Dr. Kenney. “Women are waiting longer to have children these days, sometimes into their 40s. With the increase in fertility treatments, there are more multiple births, which increases the risk of a premature birth. Plus, the national epidemic of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure also can cause complications for pregnant women with these conditions.”

Maternal-Fetal specialists like Dr. Kenney are obstetricians with additional training in managing health complications during pregnancy. They are considered “next-level” specialists and can perform specialized screenings, testing, treatment and care. They consult with cardiologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists, neonatologists and other specialists to provide women with the full spectrum of routine to critical care during their high-risk pregnancy. Dr. Kenney and his staff work with the patient and her primary health care provider to put a plan in place to manage care as needed for each patient’s situation.

“Dr. Kenney’s extensive experience in Maternal-Fetal medicine is in greater demand than ever,” says Shirley Travis, president, Bryan Physician Network. “The addition of his practice complements the Bryan Physician Network’s existing primary care and neonatology practices. Offering quality care for women with high-risk pregnancies, as well as care to newborns and premature and critically ill newborns is an important part of Bryan Health’s commitment to our communities.

The Center for Maternal and Fetal Care is located at Bryan Medical Plaza, Lincoln, NE, 1500 S. 48th St., Suite 712. For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kenney, call 402-483-8485, or visit the website here.
