For years, Marvin Cochrane of Lexington suffered from debilitating foot pain caused by plantar fasciitis. A superintendent with Vankirk Brothers construction company, Cochrane was on his feet constantly. He tried treatment plans from different doctors and physical therapists in several communities, including cortisone shots and orthotics, but found no relief. “I was in so much pain that I was walking on the tips of my toes”, says Cochrane. “I had to try something else.”
He traveled to Lincoln to see Douglas Koch, MD, of Lincoln Orthopaedic Center, PC. Dr. Koch referred Martin to interventional radiologist Michael Budler, MD, of Advanced Radiology for a new, effective treatment being performed at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln.
Dr. Budler is the first interventional radiologist in the country – and the first physician in Nebraska trained to do the Tenex Health TX Technique. He also heads the official Tenex Center of Excellence in Nebraska, training other physicians from all over the country.
Dr. Budler explained that the technique is designed to remove the source of the pain, which is scarred and damaged tissue, without disturbing the surrounding healthy tissue. He uses ultrasound to target the exact location of the scar tissue, and then inserts a small instrument about the size of a toothpick into the scar tissue, delivering ultrasonic energy that breaks it up and removes it.
The process at Bryan Medical Center is streamlined so that patients can be evaluated and treated quickly. “We’ve found that people living with this much pain don’t want to wait,” said Dr. Budler. “We’ve set up our process so patients get relief as quickly as possible. In most cases, there are no delays or additional exams needed.” The treatment is covered by most insurance plans and no physician referral is needed for a consultation.
“I’m really glad I met Dr. Budler “, said Cochrane. “It’s changed my life.”
