I have my test results. Now what?
If you recently received your lab test results from screenings at the Crete Area Medical Center health fair, you may be left wondering what to do next.
It is important to understand what the results mean and what factors can affect results. Sometimes test results can be affected by when you last ate or exercised, your age, and medicines or herbal supplements you're taking.
Sometimes tests give only a clue that must be considered with other information to support a diagnosis, identify a risk, or help choose a treatment. For example, if your cholesterol test results show you have high LDL ("bad") cholesterol, your doctor will weigh your other risk factors for heart disease before deciding on treatment.
One thing is for certain - if you received a result that falls in the Higher or Lower than normal range, you should consult your physician.
In most cases, lab tests don't provide all the information your doctor needs to make a diagnosis or treatment decision. Instead, he or she will use the results of your tests along with information about your health, gender, age, and other factors. Understanding your results will help you and your doctor discuss the next step in your diagnosis or treatment.
If you have any questions or concerns about your laboratory results, we encourage you to schedule a health fair follow-up with your family physician.
