Whether you’re already pregnant or are thinking of getting pregnant, one of your first big decisions is choosing a doctor or healthcare provider for your pregnancy and delivery. Another important decision is choosing a physician for your baby. You will want to do this before your baby is born, ideally during your last trimester.
Choosing your physician
If you already have a doctor who is a gynecologist or family practice physician who also provides obstetric services, you can choose to continue seeing this physician.
If you don’t have physician, you will want to select a physician specializing in either family medicine or obstetrics and gynecology.
Choosing your baby’s physician
You should begin the search for your baby’s physician a few months before your baby is born, and have a physician selected during your last trimester.
You have several options. Some parents prefer a pediatrician, a doctor who specializes in the care of children. Other parents prefer a family medicine physician, a doctor who specializes in family medicine and can provide care for the entire family.
